Abstract
Abstract: This paper reviews the literature on elective mutism and presents an innovative treatment approach involving the collaboration of speech/language and dance/movement therapies. Tables are provided to aid differential diagnosis and to identify traditional therapeutic interventions.A case example outlines the treatment process of an electively mute child involved in a coordinated program with speech/language and dance/movement therapists. Specific goals and interventions are described utilizing group and individual therapy experiences. The roles of related professionals and family involvement are explored in terms of bridging the progress of therapy to other areas of this child's world.
